Happy Birthday Sarah!!!!!

Sarah turns 12 years old today - boy did that time fly!!  We had a great time at her party Sunday.  Now I can show you the card I made for her!

This pop-up card is all over the blogs with a lot of videos out there.  At first I was a little nervous about making it but when I was over at Denise's house making some cards we decided to go for it and it came together pretty quick.  She had a Martha Stewart balloon punch which worked out great, and I used some of my Judith peg stamps for the small cake and cupcake.  I has some leftover red hearts from Valentine's Day projects and put them in as well.  I really loved how it turned out.

Here's a picture of SU's new stretch ribbon that I decorated the box with.  I'm definitely going to make some more of these - and Sarah loved it!

And what's a birthday without cake!  She had a picture of Minecraft (her favorite past time) put on it and she was in her glory when her heroes - Amy Lee and Stampy Longnose - sent her a birthday wish on twitter.

Here's a picture of all our girls together - what a crew!  Jennifer loved the candles and balloons!  Hope everyone had as much fun as we did this weekend - now if it doesn't snow today all will be well!

School Projects

Well, the girls finally went back to school yesterday, after having last Thurs. and Fri. off due to the weather.  They had a delayed opening today and probably will again tomorrow due to the icy weather coming in the AM.  They were finally able to finish and bring home some projects they had been working on and they wanted to share them on our blog!

Sarah had sewing this quarter and her project was to make a pillow.  A few weeks ago, we went to Hobby Lobby with her shopping list and she picked out the fabric that she wanted to make her pillow.  She loves pink and knew exactly what she wanted.

Here is the finished result.  I should have taken a picture of the other side - which is all the solid pink material.  She was so proud of the finished product.  She was especially proud of the 4 pieces that she sewed correctly making the seams meet perfectly.  I told her she did a great job, considering it was the first time she used a sewing machine.  The teacher must have thought so too, as she got an A!!

Rachel had Art this quarter and they made a yarn bowl which I just fell in love with.  I had never seen anything finished off like this.

She said they started out with a piece of cording and wrapped the different colors of yarn around it keeping it very tight and gluing the ends.

This is how the bottom looks.  She said she then tied the cording together with yarn of the same color and formed a bowl.

This is a picture of how the bowl looks inside.  I was pretty impressed with the detail and so was the teacher as she got an A on the project as well.

Swing Card

Hope you  had a great weekend.  The weather here was beautiful.  We had a fun weekend!  Rachel had her family birthday party on Saturday - hard to believe that she turned 13th - we have a teenager in the family!  Last month I saw this card on Jackie Topa's blog and knew it was just  the card I wanted to make for her birthday.  Ever since she was little she loved to go on her swing! 

I didn't have all the punches Jackie used but made due with what I had.  I found some DSP in a scrap pack that looked like a tree, so I hand cut that as I didn't have the embossing folder.   I was really happy how it turned out and she loved it. For the inside of the card I printed a poem that I had found years ago and kept for the right occasion -

For Rachel

 

A granddaughter is a wonderful gift,

A treasure from above.

She fills our life with happiness,

Thoughtfulness and love.

A granddaughter brings a special joy

That comes from deep inside.

As she grows into adulthood,

She fills our heart with pride.

With every year that passes by,

She's more special than before.

We love her even more.

And all the joy and gratitude,

That comes from having a granddaughter

Twine Keeper

I don't know about you, but when I go to use some of my twine it usually turns out to be a disaster waiting to happen!  No matter how I try to put it away it always turns into a ball of worms!  I saw on several blogs different ways to organize your twine and decided to go for it!  The easy part was getting the clothespins - the hard part was unwrapping it to put it around the clothespins!  But - I persevered and am so happy with the outcome! 

 

 

All you have to do is wrap the twine around the clothespin.  When you get to the end just pinch it and it will keep the end nice and secure.  I then put them into a glass container for safe keeping!  Try it - you'll like it!

 

 

We had a great time at the scrap booking fair.  It wasn't as big as last year, but we still had fun.  This was Sarah's first year and she enjoyed the make n' takes.

 

Needless to say, my debit card took a bit hit.  Lots of new ideas and stamps.  I also won a $10 gift certificate to a vendor as a door prize.  I gave it to Sarah who refilled her supply of stickles!  She loves them.  We hope you have a great week!

Sarah's Goodies Bags

Sarah reminded me that we didn't post the goodie bags she made for her sleepover for her birthday.  I saw this project on one of the craft blogs for kids and thought it would be perfect for her and her friends, as they love to paint their nails.

Here are a few of the completed bottles.  She chose the bottles as she and her friends are in the 5th Grade Running Club and are running a 5K race in May.  She put all the following goodies inside the bottles and then used my Floral Frames Framelits die from SU to make a tag for each of the girls.  She then used some fiber threads I had left over to decorate the bottles.  I think she did a great job!

Thank goodness for Walmart's!!  We got all the supplies there really cheap.  She got nail polish, lip gloss, baby lotion, nail polish remover in disposable packets (which my daughter really appreciated) and her favorite candy of course. They also sold these cute plastic tubes which contained a nail file, tweezers and nail clippers for only $1.00.  Then we got the water bottles to hold all the goodies!  The girls had a great time!

I'm looking forward to this weekend.  I'm going to the Heirloom Stamp Show and can hardly wait!  I love to do the "make & takes" and look at all the goodies!  I go with the attitude just to look but usually come home with a haul!  Hope you have a great weekend!

Sarah's Birthday Card

Sarah had her family birthday party this weekend in between the snow!  She turned 11 years old and this is the first time we can remember having snow.  She'll have her girlfriends over for a sleepover this weekend - LOL!!  Here is the card I made for her.  She has always loved pinwheels since she was a little girl, so I knew what type of card I would make her!

Supplies:

Stamps - Just for You - Michael's
Paper - Brilliant Blue, Whisper White - SU, K&Company - Watercolor Bouquet
Accessories - Pinwheel Sizzlits - SU, Cricut Cartridge - George & Basic Shapes
Embellishments -  Mini brad, lollipop stick - Michael's

This is an A2 sized card - 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" in Brilliant Blue. The next layer is 5 1/4" x 4" in the double sided Watercolor Bouquet.  My circles were cut 3 1/4" and 3".  I adhered my circles to my layer and then my pinwheel to my lollipop stick.  I stamped my sentiment and then freehand cut the edges.

What is a birthday without a cake!  One guess who Sarah wanted on her cake?

Katie Perry of course!  We had a good time in spite of the snow! 

 

Well, it's snowing AGAIN!  I thought Spring was on its way!  Hopefully, we won't get too much!  Hope you have a great week - without snow!

Thanksgiving Fun & Recipe

We had so much fun over the Holiday weekend!  It's hard to believe that the girls are headed back to school today - even with the snow!  Sarah spent most of the weekend with us as Rachel ended up with a cough.  She drew this great picture and wanted to share it.  I loved how it turned out.

 

We made Pop Up Pancakes for breakfast yesterday - their favorite!  It is so quick and easy!

This recipe makes 24 muffins and I usually cut it in half.

1 cup milk
1 cup flour
6 eggs
1/4 cup melted butter
dash of salt
Preheat oven to 400 degrees and grease your muffin tins

I like to mix all the ingredients in my blender as it does the best job of getting it smooth.  Pour the mixture into your greased muffin pan(s) and bake for 15 minutes or until puffy and golden on top.  If they were well greased they should pop right out.  The puffiness will die down as they cool and will become more like a cup.  Now is the best part - the toppings!  Believe me we have tried everything on them!  We usually put on some butter, syrup, fruit and of course some whipped cream (which Poppy always has on hand).  I have even put on jelly and peanut butter!  Add some cooked bacon on the side and you're all ready to eat!

Sarah helped me get ready for Xmas - all the decorations are up and we are in count down mode!  I have some projects that I have already made for the teachers that I will be posting soon.

Sunflowers Everywhere!

Before school started my husband and I took Sarah on vacation with us to the Finger Lakes in NY.  Last year we took Rachel to Vermont, so this year it was Sarah's turn!  We had a great time but we were so impressed with the acres of sunflowers that we found growing all over the place.  I had to stop and take some pictures from the road.  Sarah was also fascinated with a huge nest we saw on top of the electrical transmission lines.  We were told it was a "Golden Eagle's Nest".

On the way home, we stopped at the Treman State Forest and Sarah went swimming in the lake.  The attraction was the waterfalls.  She discovered that lake water is definitely colder than our friend's swimming pool!  It was really beautiful to see!

I will have to get caught up with my scrapbooking!  This Sunday is Grandparent's Day and we are looking forward to spending it with the girls.  Hope you have a great weekend as well!
