4th of July Postcards

Well, it is hot, humid and raining - typical summer days!  Trying to straighten up my craft room, I came across an old SU stamp that I thought would make some great postcards.  A friend of mind had found it at a house sale and scooped it up for me for 50 cents!  I think it was from 2001.  Jennifer McGuire had a VIDEO awhile ago on making these and I thought I would make some for the holiday and send to some of our friends.  Awhile back, I had made some for Jennifer.  Here is the POST I made.  As you can see, they look great with any stamps.

I used one of my oval stencils and did some blending for the top and bottom leaving the  middle white  The stamp had never been used and was wooded mounted, so I carefully removed it and used my Misti.  I was so pleased how it turned out!

Here is a closer look.  I forgot to take a picture of the other side but Jennifer McGuire has a free template on her website that you copy on your CS that has a place for your stamp, address and message.

It was a busy few days for us.  On Thursday, my daughters, Jennifer, Joe and I went to see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.  We had taken our kids there many years ago, but Joe wanted to go back as his Dad had come to Ellis Island as a child from Poland with his older sister.  They have computerized more information and we hope to obtain photo copies of his Dad's journey.

From Ellis Island, we went by ferry to see the Statue of Liberty.  Here is a picture of Joe on the ferry.

Here is a picture of Jennifer in front of the statue.  It was a nice day but very hot.

Then on Saturday we celebrated my birthday.  We went to a nice restaurant up in the Poconos.

I had a Boston Cream Pie which I love.  We are watching Daisy while Jennifer is at Wolfe's Lodge swimming and then Tuesday the kids are coming here for the 4th.  Wednesday I  will be sleeping in!!  LOL!!  Everyone in the Pansy Patch wishes you a wonderful 4th of July.

4th of July Treats

We hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July.  Time seems to be flying by and I didn't get these little treats posted earlier  I made these for my daughter to take to the Wellness Center.  I saw this post over at - Rejoice and Create - and decided to make them.  They came together pretty quick.

It was nice to be able to use up some more DSP scraps that I have had laying around.

My daughter and Jennifer are down at the shore for the holiday, but when she facetimed me and found out what I was making she asked if I would save one.  I wasn't sure what to put them in but found a styrofoam circle that fit into a basket, so I just stuck the pops in it.

I added some grass and a bowl filled with some candy.  I think you could make these for a kids birthday party as well.  They were a lot of fun to make.

July 4th Pin Wheels

I hope everyone is having a great weekend!  It has been hot here with lots of thunderstorms but much better than snow!!  My friend Martha gave me some SU Paper Pumpkin kits that she didn't want the last time she was here.  I decided to go through them this weekend and found this older kit of Pin Wheels to make.  I had been looking for some decorations for the holiday and started making them.  My daughter and Jennifer came up yesterday and she wanted to help.  I used to make a lot of these for Rachel and Sarah from scratch years ago.  This kit had the paper already cut out with all the embellishments.  The papers were 4 1/2" x 4 1/2" but you can make them any size you want

If you are making then from scratch, cut up from each corner towards the center leaving about 1/2" from the center.  Punch small holes on each corner and one in the center.

Using your bone folder, curl the corners with the holes on them.

Then put each corner with a hold into the brad one after the other and then through the center hole to form a pin wheel.

The kit had supplied these cute sturdy straws, so it was Jennifer's job to flatten the end, put on a medium glue dot and put it on the back of the pin wheel.   I used to put the brad through a small dowel and that way the pin wheel would spin, but I didn't have any in my stash.

The kit also had some cute stamps and labels, so Jennifer stamped them and she make some drinking straws for her to take home.

Make sure to use double sided paper  as both sides show through.

I found these ice cream glasses to display them.  I think they turned out cute and they look nice on the table.

They took some home with them to put on their table as well.  I'm working on some goodies for the Wellness Center but had to wait for the Amazon order to come in this week.  Did you make any decorations for the holiday?  I think I will leave these out until after labor Day.

Happy 4th of July!!!

We hope everyone is enjoying this week of celebration.  It has been so hot here in the North East, but we are still planning on celebrating today with family but mostly inside.  I came across a post I had made many years ago.  A 4th of July card that I was really proud of and thought I would post it again for those of you who may have not seen it!  It definitely tested me, but I was so happy with the results.

I always make these 4th of July goodies as well.  The people in the Wellness Center always look out for them.

Have a wonderful, joyful day with your family and friends!

I entered this post at Alway's Fun Challenges #65

Happy 4th of July Cards

We hope everyone had a wonderful weekend with family and friends!  We spent Saturday with my daughter, Jennifer and the rest of the family.  They had an open house where my son-in-law works, so all the guys went.  He operates a BIG crane so they had a great time!!  Sunday, I had everyone at the house, but we ended up spending most of the day inside as it was so hot outside.  The guys got toy helicopters to play with and found some shade to play.  They never grow up!!

I decided to make some 4th of July cards.  I love this holiday - probably because my birthday is July 1st and when I was working I always enjoyed the long holiday!  I saw a bunch of cards on Pinterest that I liked and ended up changing them up a bit to use the supplies I have on hand.

Recipe:

Paper - Whisper White, Pacific Point, Glimmer Red & Gold Paper
Ink - Pacific Point
Stamps - SU July Fourth, Gorgeous Grunge
Accessories - Star Framelits, Star Punches

These cards came together so quick.  I just layered my paper, then used my Grunge stamp and stamped it 3 times on the layer.  I adhered my gold glimmer star I had die cut and then used my punches to add the red glimmer stars.

I used my sentiment stamp - Happy 4th of July on the inside and I was done!  Hope everyone is having a good week - it sure is hot here in PA.  I guess I shouldn't complain - it's better than snow!!
This time last year we were getting ready to go on vacation to the Outer Banks, in North Carolina.  I wish we were going again - I loved it there!  So did the kids!

4th of July Card

The neighborhood is definitely starting to celebrate the 4th early - lots of fireworks going off!  I decided to make this card for the holiday.

It came together really quick.  I used Brilliant Blue for the base card with the first layer of Whisper White - 5 1/4" x 4". The second layer is Real Red - 5" x 3 3/4" - which I embossed with my star folder.  I love how crisp and clear the embossing is on this folder.  I then used my Cricut to cut out my 2 stars and my small SU punch for the red star, which I glued a red button that I had tied a bow on.  I used my stamp set from SU - July Fourth for my sentiment, punching it out with my large oval punch.  The girls thought it was pretty festive!

We also quickly put together some of our candy wrapper which we always do for the holiday.  See this post for all the directions.

We hope everyone has a great week with lots of fun!

4th of July Candy Wrapper

Every 4th of July I make these cute candy wrappers for my daughter to take to the hospital.  I saw this done years ago on Dawn's Stamping Thoughts and loved it and make them every year.  This year I decided to make some of the Flag Picks to go along with them.

The hardest thing about making these are cutting the red stripes thin enough.  I had a bunch of them piled up and it brought back memories of playing - Pick Up Sticks!!  I'm probably dating myself, but as a kid we loved playing this game!  We're looking forward to a great 4th of July and lots of fireworks!  My friend Denise invites us over to her house every year to see the fireworks - she has a great view, so the girls are looking forward to that again this year!

Thanks for stopping bye,

4th of July Card & Flag Pick

Looking through my stash of paper for a 4th of July card, I came across a card made by Becca of Amazing Paper Grace.  I loved how it looked and wanted to make it but felt it was way too hard for me so I filed it away.  Well, I decided to take the plunge, and I'm so glad I did!  It didn't turn out as good as Becca's did but I'm really happy with it!

Recipe:

Stamp - Happy 4th of July (inside sentiment) - Michael's
Paper - Brilliant Blue, Real Red, Whisper White - SU
Accessories - Ribbon, stick pins, tiny rose flower, MS Zig Zag Edger Punch

I made the base card 5 x 5" on Brilliant Blue and the Real Red layer is 4 3/4" x 4 3/4".  The Whisper White measures 4 1/2" x 4".  You can adjust your measurements to fit your needs as you go along.  Here is a link to Becca's video on how to make the bunting and the flag picks.  I also got my ribbons at Hobby Lobby and they were on sale - thank you very much! I used my bow maker to make the bow, and I had a tiny white rose in my stash.  I make a bunch of them in different colors and have them on hand for when I need them.  My husband always laughs at me when I salvage items and keep them for something??????  Well, the hat pins that my daughter was going to throw away finally came in handy!  Now who's laughing!!

Becca makes such beautiful cards - I really should call them masterpieces and now I can say that I finally attempted one of her designs!  Well, the weekend is almost here and we are gearing up for the holiday.  Hope you have a great weekend!

Thanks for stopping bye,
Nancy, Rachel and Sarah
