Sympathy Cards

Wow, I can't believe that almost a month has gone by since my last post!!  Unfortunately, it has not been a very good month at that.  Before Christmas our little Jennifer got sick with pneumonia and then Joe got a sinus infection.  After Christmas my daughters and I all got bronchitis and then my son-in-law, Rachel and Sarah got the flu!  What a mess!  We haven't been that sick in a long time.

Right before Christmas a close friend of mine passed away suddenly.  It was really a shock to her family and friends.  We grew up together, got pregnant together and had a lot of good memories with our kids and families.  She was a wonderful quilter and loved checking in on my blog to see what goodies I was doing.  She will be missed!  Then two weeks later her sister's husband passed away as well.  As I started feeling better, I decided to make some sympathy cards using my Heartfelt Burst of Spring Collection as she knew how much I loved pansies and made me a beautiful pansy pin years ago which I treasure.

I also used Heartfelt Creations Royal Frame and Accent Dies for my base cards.  I used SU's Whisper White, Melon Mambo and Highland Heather CS for my base cards.

I colored these pansies in SU's Melon Mambo, Pretty and Pink inks and Old Olive and Lemon Lime Twist inks on my leaves.

For these pansies, I used SU's Highland Heather, Gorgeous Grape inks and the same colors as above for the leaves.  I also put some prills in the centers of all my pansies.

I used SU's stamp set Heartfelt Blooms for my sentiment on the front of the cards and SU's stamp set Better Together for the inside sentiment.  I was really pleased how they turned out and I know she would have loved them as well.

Sympathy Card

This week has gone bye so fast - I can't believe it's Friday already!!  I know I always say that, but think the summer is half over!!  I wasn't sure what I was going to post this week, and then I remembered that I hadn't posted this card.  It is another sympathy card I had made for my daughter to give to my friend Pat's family.

It is very clean and simple, but I liked it.  I used my favorite CS Sweet Sugarplum for the basic card.  I can't seem to put that paper down.  I layered it with a layer of Whisper White, which I had embossed with these little birds.  I have had this folder for a long time and haven't used it much.

I tied some Sweet Sugarplum ribbon around it and stamped my sentiment in Basic Black using the Better Together Stamp set from SU.

For my sentiment on the inside of the card, I used the Stamp set Rose Wonder.  I'm so excited.  My stamping friend from Florida is up and we are going to start getting together and do some stamping.  I like to stamp, but it is so much nicer when you have someone who enjoys the same hobby to do it together.  She likes to work on her Xmas cards when she is up, so maybe this will be an incentive for me to make some.  Have a wonderful weekend!

Sympathy Card

Well, it has been a rough week, but everyone got through it.  I thought I would show you the sympathy card I made for Pat's family.  I was all over the place and couldn't make my mind up, so I decided to take a break and unpack my last box for the craft room and came across the So Detailed Thinlets die set and knew this was what I had been looking for.  I made the base card in Sweet Sugarplum with a layer of Very Vanilla and Falling In Love DSP.

I really liked how this card ended up.  I used the Better Together stamp set for my sentiment along with my matching Sweet Sugarplum ribbon.

I had some adhesive paper from when SU used to sell it and adhered my Very Vanilla paper to it and then used my die cut.  It made it so easy to adhere the die cut to the DSP.  For the inside sentiment, I used a stamp from SU's Rose Wonder.

It is now raining like cats and dogs outside.  Hopefully, the sun will come out this weekend and we can get some yard work done.

Sympathy Card

Unfortunately, I needed to make a sympathy card over the weekend.  I  didn't have any in my stash, so I decided to use my favorite Botanical die and CASE this card I saw in Pinterest.  As usual, I changed it up a bit.

The original had only white for the flowers, but I decided to add some color to them.

Recipe:

Ink - Lost Lagoon
Stamps - Party Pants,  Sympathy sentiment
Paper - Whisper White Thick and regular, Lost Lagoon
Accessories - Botanical Die
Embellishments - Pearls, Wink of Stella

My base card is 5 1/2" x 4 x 1/4" in thick Whisper White.  I just ordered this and wanted to try it out.  My layer of Lost Lagoon is 3 3/4" x 5" and my layer of regular Whisper White is 3 5/8" x 4 7/8".  I used the Lost Lagoon CS for the center of the flowers as well, and then sponged the edges on the outer petals with it for some added color.  I popped them up with dimensionals and slipped some leaves underneath.  I used my clear Wink of Stella on the petals so they would stand out.  Love how this makes them look!

Here is a picture of the inside sentiment.  The only sympathy stamp I have is an old wood one that I have had for years.

Well, it is going to be a busy week.  Joe just left for his other cataract surgery.  We will be glad when this is behind us.  The girls are in the last few weeks of summer - hard to believe that it is August!  Hope your week ahead is good!

Summertime Fun Cards

Well, we are in the midst of school shopping - one week left.  It is mad chaos around here.  Joe and I have been babysitting Jennifer for the past two weeks as my daughter went back to work.  Best laid plans - the daycare center at her work didn't work out.  She was only there 3 days in 2 weeks and had a toy dropped on her head by another child, and caught a terrible cold from the other kids.  She has been so sick.  Back to the Dr.'s 2 times.  My daughter is now interviewing  people to watch her at home, so guess who is watching her until that happens!  She has contaminated us all - everyone has a sore throat so lots of germs floating around here.  But I managed to go to a crafting day at my Stampin Up Demonstrator on Friday and made some cute cards that I thought I would share with you.

Unfortunately, I am always in the need of sympathy cards which I never have.  I have been looking at this stamp set and really liked how it turned out.

We used the new in-color Blackberry Bliss for a layer on whisper white.  We stamped the Everything Eleanor stamp in crumb cake and then the Love & Sympathy stamp in Blackberry Bliss over it.  I really like the richness in this color.

I like the sentiment that comes with the stamp set as well.  Another card I decided to make was what I call a happy card!  The stamp set was Work of Art which is another set I'm thinking of buying.  We used Melon Mambo for the base card with a layer of black and stamped on whisper white.  The little hearts stamped in black look like seeds in a watermelon - so cute!

These cards are so simple and easy to make and love how they turned out.  Joe is down at the garden trying to find some tomatoes for dinner.  This year's crop wasn't too good this year.  Not enough to do any canning either.  Hope you are enjoying your weekend and have a great week!

Sympathy Card

My daughter's neighbor passed away this week, so I needed to make a sympathy card.  I never have any in my stash, as deep inside I probably don't want to make them.  But that being said - I had seen a SU sympathy card made with my favorite pansy stamp and choose that one to make.

Recipe:

Stamps - Flower Shop, Sincere Salutation, - SU, Sentiment - Michael's
Paper - Old Olive, Whisper White, DSP - SU
Ink - Old Olive - SU
Accessories - Floral Frames - SU
Embellishments - Mistletoe Ribbon, Pearls - SU

A made an A2 sized card in Old Olive and layered it with Whisper White and a piece of DSP.  I secured  my ribbon with a glue dot and then popped up my Floral Frames with dimensionals.  I decorated my pansies with some pearls and popped them up a well.  I added my sentiment "Thinking of You" on the inside and I was finished.  I think this design card could be used for other occasions as well.

Well, it is a miserable day for a funeral.  Lots of fog and nasty weather coming in.  We did enjoy the sun yesterday and spent some time holding our new granddaughter Jennifer.  She is really getting big - she now weighs 11 lbs. and is 4 mos. old!  Hope everyone has a good weekend and is keeping warm!

Thanks for stopping bye,
Nancy, Rachel & Sarah
